Superb new museum to a racing legend
I liked the old museum but visited the new Museum shortly after opening and was stunned and amazed at the transformation. The fantastic new museum is fit for the 21st Century and a great tribute to Jim Clark and his many racing achievements.

Jim Clark was the son of a farmer from the Scottish Borders, modest and quietly spoken with a warm smile and dry wit. Yet, Jim is widely regarded as one of the greatest and naturally gifted motor racing drivers of all time, who became a national hero for Scotland and international icon of the 1960s.

The former Jim Clark Memorial Room, has been transformed into a new museum with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund, to the £1.6m project.

Abound worked alongside the curators, multimedia specialists and architectural team, who oversaw the remodelling of the B-listed Georgian villa and coach house into a 230m² exhibition space. Abound’s scope included the creation of:

• contribution to the Round One NLHF application
• a semi-circular reception desk and retail space
• core gallery featuring sweeping lines and concealed lighting
• AV theatre area
• trophy display, with sliding tablets to provide in-depth information for enthusiasts
• a temporary exhibition space utilising a hanging system
• hands-on activities
• changing displays within the garage, which includes a soundscape

The most common visitor response to the evaluation question, ‘What would you change?’ has been, ‘Nothing’.
