The Holy Island of Lindisfarne

Window on Wild Lindisfarne, a custom-built exhibition space, opened in 2013. It features a large window that frames the island’s landscape. The original exhibition had become dated and the space felt unwelcoming.

Abound’s team collaborated with the island’s community development trust to renovate the space, focusing on the island’s rich habitats and species, some of which are unique to Lindisfarne.

The building is on a key visitor route to the castle, but the dingy entrance was ineffective in drawing people into the exhibition. Abound countered this issue by creating an immersive, aquatic-themed corridor with back-lit graphics and blue LED floor lighting.

We also encountered a challenge with concrete-clad walls featuring incised text and a long-abandoned projection screen. To address this, we clad some walls with acoustic panels, which enhanced the space’s feel, added warmth, and improved acoustic comfort.
